Our topic for this half term is Stargazers (Space) and we have already enjoyed a wide range of cross curricular learning.
In Science, we have learned all about the solar system, the rotation of the Earth, the orbit of the Earth around the Sun and the orbit of the Moon around the Sun. To help us understand the phases of the Moon we used Oreo cookies!
We have enjoyed creating artwork using different media such as oil pastels, watercolours
and marbling inks. Doesn’t our display look stunning?
In English, we are currently writing chronological reports about the first Moon landing of
1969. To do this we are using a beautiful picture book called The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield (a real life astronaut from Canada) as a stimulus for our writing. We
enjoyed another picture book called The Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob) and
did lots of fabulous writing linked to this. This included Tripadvisor style reviews of trips to
the Moon and persuasive writing to encourage tourists to visit the Moon on one of Bob’s
Some children have started to bring in their home learning.
Once again we have all been impressed by the high standard and quality of work being produced. It looks fabulous on our display!
This fascinating topic is a wonderful inter-galactic adventure and has created so many
exciting and engaging learning experiences!
